South America, Argentina, ca. 20th century CE. A festive bird mask, hand carved from a single piece of wood and hand painted in rich yellow ochre with a pronounced black beak that is slightly parted so as to reveal a pink tongue. There are eye holes for the wearer and the mask is perforated at each side for attaching and at the top for suspension. Size: 8.75" L x 6.75" W x 6.75" H (22.2 cm x 17.1 cm x 17.1 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Morgan Collection, Santa Monica, CA
